I obviously can't claim to know what John Denver would or would not have liked...and yet I'm positive he would have been delighted by this.
As is known by one and all, NRBQ's "Ridin' in My Car" is objectively perfect.
But who knew that a source of its perfection is the opening lines of lil ditty from 1965 New Haven?
Nothin' to add. Just stumbled across this today and here 'tis.
Well, I guess I'd add that it must be weird to be as talented a musician and singer as this guy is and still be utterly overshadowed by a fellow band member. Being in a band with someone like Steve Winwood must have been amazing and humbling.
This is an unexpectedly effective cover of one of Bruce Springsteen's great songs of this century. Steven alters the melody in small but effective ways, and his voice is as accessible as it's ever been. And—no surprise, given his skills—the arrangement is fabulous.
I have to assume Dave Gilmour sent his part in with the understanding that Ice-T would use the bits he liked best.
